Three online casinos in Argentina, formoapuestas.com.ar, vcapuestas.com.ar and ar.888.com are at risk of being shut down by the police. This is due to the fact that in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, online gambling is prohibited. It has been a while since the Argentinian government is looking for a way to change the law, as the high percentage generated by these companies would be given to it and so would greatly help with the country’s economy.
An online casino company, named bwin, was canceled in Buenos Aires about two months ago. The president of the company, Mr Andrés Wasserman, said: “We are in the process of explaining to the justice that the licence given by Misiones doesn’t allow them to block the site’s functioning, but the process is long and will require certain effort. We hope measures are taken quickly so that our domain is released and so that our situation can be solved.”
Wasserman managed to calm down his clients, garanteeing their money: “Bwin Argentina is working perfectly well; the only thing is that it cannot be accessed. The client can ask for his or her money removal.” According to the contract made with Misiones, Bwin must pay 25.000 Argentinian pesos monthly.
In the rest of the world, online casinos are a fact; there are more than 2,300 working nowadays. In Argentina, it is something completely new, which is backed up by a no-existing law on internet gambling but also limited by laws that allow each province to give out licences to play, only in their geographic area. Since the activity is penalized, around 70% of the bets are lost.
