In spite of the announcements made by Harrah’s Entertainment a few months ago about the development of a $1.2 billion casino in Slovenia, the company has decided to withdraw from the project. A spokesperson for Harrah’s said the decision was made because they were unable to reach an agreement concerning a management contract.
“It was really coming to an agreement on how we could have management strength and they could have ownership control,” Jan Jones, Harrah’s senior vice president of communications and government relations explained. She added that the company tried hard to find a suitable structure that complied with Slovenian laws, but they couldn’t manage to do so.
The planned casino was expected to have 1,500 rooms, 2,000 slot machines, several table games, convention and exhibition centers, clubs, bars, restaurants and a spa, which would have made it the largest casino in Eastern Europe. The chosen location for the complex was western Slovenia.
This is the second time in a month the company withdraws from a project. A few weeks ago, Harrah’s pulled out of a $2.6 billion project in the Bahamas.
