The U.S. government carried out a special operation before and during the Super Bowl to stop all online bets. The operation was part of a campaign leaded by federal prosecutors and agents in the FBI’s organized crime unit against Internet gambling.
The campaign toughened in the weeks previous to the Super Bowl, as Americans prepared to wager more than $5 billion on the game between the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts. Super Bowl Sunday is considered the biggest betting day of the year.
